Meet Sharna
Hello there, I’m Sharna - The other voice and mind behind the scenes at Halfway to Healing. Like Sam, I’m going to give a little introduction about myself, who I am, why I’m here and my goals for this podcast.
Originally from little ol’ Tasmania, a country life was all I knew, I didn’t know anyone outside of the state (don’t worry, I had my second head removed long ago). That country life was soon swapped for the hustle and bustle of a city life in Melbourne when I was just five (what do you mean I don’t have 12 acres to run and play around anymore?). Three years later my family moved to sunny Queensland to a combination of a country and city lifestyle - not as busy as Melbourne, but not as remote as Tasmania. I’ve lived here ever since.
Having known Sam personally through group therapy sessions, it wasn’t until one night when we were both catching the same train back from Brisbane and the talk of work and what we each did came up. I told Sam that I had been in the same hospitality job for seven years and was in desperate need of a change. Sam told me that they owned their own graphic design business and had several clients. I was in awe to say the least, and as they say the rest is history. I’ve now been doing admin work for Sam for over a year and I absolutely love it. It is so amazing that someone who I only saw once a month for therapy is now my boss, podcast co-host, and most importantly one of my closest friends.
Coming from a family where my father has a PhD in Environmental Science and my brother is a pilot, education and knowledge is something that has always been instilled and sought out in me as a child. I recently graduated with my Bachelor of Forensic Science, and a research topic I did in my final year on genomics has inspired me to go on to enrol in a Masters of Bioinformatics.
Apart from studying or working, you’ll generally find me listening to a true crime podcast or documentary (I even listen to them to go to sleep!) I love music too, while I’m not a huge Swiftie like Sam, I definitely know a lot more Taylor Swift songs now. I especially enjoy AJR, Noah Kahan, Hozier and several others. I am gaining a rather impressive collection of moths and butterflies - you’ll come to learn that I love these creatures and I have found them to be really inspiring in my recovery journey.
Sam and I are so excited to begin this journey and share with you our experience. My goal of this podcast is to educate and inform you. I want you to feel heard and seen. You are not alone. Healing is hard work but there is always hope.
Thank you for being here for the journey, I can’t wait to tell you all more.
